The investigation into the death of 33-year-old Ottertail resident Scott Burris is still ongoing by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, nearly nine months after his body was found.

“We’re in regular contact with the family,” said Lieutenant Matt McGuire. He said he talked with the victim’s mother Tuesday morning.

An autopsy was completed the weekend Burris’s body was found, June 15, 2012. However, the sheriff’s office has not released the cause of death, autopsy results or the reasons behind his death and have not made any arrests.

“Because of the suspicious and foul play circumstances… we are holding on to the details of what we know,” McGuire said.

Authorities believe the case is drug-related and that foul play was involved, McGuire said Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Department, he said, is treating it like a homicide investigation.

Burris’s body was found in the Otter Tail River near Orwell Dam. His abandoned van was found in Elizabeth in May. Sheriff’s deputies, Fergus Falls police and personnel with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension executed a search warrant in July on a home on North Oak Street related to the investigation.
