Published 10:08am Friday, March 8, 2013BATTLE LAKE — In a hard fought battle in the Section 6A, the hosting Battlers were able to walk off the court with a 67-63 win over the West Central Area Knights Thursday.
The Battlers were able to carry a six point lead at the break and hold off an offensive surge by the Knights to claim the win.
“Our coaching staff always asks our players to play hard, smart, and together and we won’t ask anything more,” Knights coach Kraig Hunter said. “Tonight we couldn’t ask for any more. We left everything on the floor and never quit.”
Tony Ukkelberg led the Battler Lake shooters with 23 points, while teammate Dan Marso dropped in 13 points. Tyler Ukkelberg led the Battlers on the glass with 13 rebounds.
West Central’s Drew Peterson knocked down 20 points, while teammate Dakotah Kashmark chipped in 19 points. Austin Redepenning (12) and Brady Combs (10) were also in double digits for the Knights in the game.
“We are very proud of our kids. This group was a joy to coach and with our tough schedule we had a great year winning 14 games and playing some good, high level basketball,” Hunter added.
The Knights end their season with a 14-12 record.
The Battlers will now travel to the University of Minnesota-Morris to take on Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in a 7:45 p.m. playoff showdown Saturday.
