More sheriffs needed to uphold second amendment [UPDATED]

Published 8:54am Friday, March 8, 2013 Updated 10:55am Friday, March 8, 2013

The state militia mentioned in the 2nd amendment is every man over 20 able to go to war, with some state constitutions varying a little from that. This concept comes from scripture (Numbers 26:2). Jesus instructed His followers to obtain swords for self defense (Luke 22:36), not to kill (Matthew 26:52).

According to the Declaration of Independence, life is a God given right. Since the militia is also God given and Jesus is the Son of God, therefore the right to defend the right to life is also God given.

All government officials take an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, the authority of the United States; which states that it, and all statues and treaties “made in pursuant thereof”, “shall be the supreme Law of the Land.” Not statues, treaties, judicial rulings, executive orders and etc. that violate the rule of law of the U. S. Constitution 28 of Utah’s 29 Sheriffs gathered together and signed a letter opposing and defying federal attempts to infringe on the 2nd Amendment.

As of 2-1-2013, 242 sheriffs had issued similar public letters and statements; as also have a number of police chiefs and county commissioners.

Since crime increases where citizens have been disarmed and since these shootings in the news have been occurring in gun-free zones; for our safety, more Sheriffs, police chiefs, county and city commissioners of more states (including Minnesota) need to have state meetings to sign public statements that they will uphold and protect the 2nd Amendment.

Are fully automatics and short barreled shotguns legal in the United States? Could it be over 80 years ago the Supreme Court determined that Congress can pass laws that restrict the types of guns private citizens may carry? That said, give the name(S) of the person or person’s who have the power to remove guns already in your possession?

  2. Richard Olson

I had no idea the Jesus endorsed assault style weapons, unlimited capacity magazines and drums. I don’t know if they had background checks to get a sword in those early days, but if they did I’m sure Jesus was against them.
By the way, Columbine had an armed guard, which the shooters knew about, Fort Knox is not a gun free zone, the Gifford shooting in Tucson occurred with people in the crowd who had guns on their person. But didn’t shoot for fear of hitting innocent bystanders. There are also armed guards at Virginia tech.

That’s really funny (or something) when 28 of 29 Sheriffs sworn to uphold the law gather in Utah to agree they will defy the Federal law they don’t like but will protect the Federal law they do like. I submit one can not depend on any law enforcement office who decides what level of protection he will enforce based upon his personal whim on any particular day.

So, those cheering neighbors are to fall for your line of baloney that there is moral equivalency between murder, rape, armed robbery, enforcing border laws, and your fictional story about a moving vehicle infraction? Do you really have such a low regard of Americans that you believe they cannot see through your change of subject (from major felonies and invasion of our homeland) to a trivial traffic bust, and your lame excuse for seeing them all as the same type of offense?
But, then, all of that seems logical within your myopic framework of moral relativism, no?
Finally, your assertion that both of your aliases are legal names is just a slippery distraction from your hiding behind an alias. Larry is a legal name. Erickson is a legal name. So too is “Walt Henry”. But that does NOT mean that they are YOUR legal names. I could call myself Hillary Clinton, and assert that is a legal name..But, it wouldn’t be MY actual name.

  4. Merle Hexum

    Larry, Phaedrus, and Richard;

I know that we’ve had our differences and that we get into some heated discussions sometimes, but I want to put all that aside for the time being. I want to offer you guys my condolences on the loss of one of your own. I can only imagine the devestation and heart break that you guys are experiencing at this time. Just remember this; Hugo would be proud of all of you and even though he’s gone now he would want you guys to continue on in his work.

Keep your heads up and look to your other heroes in the faith; Cuban leader Raul Castro and brother Fidel, Bolivian President Evo Morales, Syria’s mass-murdering Bashar al-Assad, Zimbabwe’s brutal Robert Mugabe, Belarus repressive dictator Alexander Lukashenko, and Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

You guys are not alone in you suffering, there are other Americans grieving his loss as well; Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Naomi Campbell, Susan Sarandon, and Harry Belafonte.

My deepest sympathy in your loss!

  5. Richard Olson

There must be a branch of the Westboro Baptist Church in or near Perham. What other bunch of haters and mean disgusting people would have Merle Hexum as a member.
One can only imagine what hate, prejudice and intolerance Merle passes to his children. This sound like a case for child protective services.

I cannot believe some of the things written by people on the left. Larry actually compares Christianity to communism! You could not find two more diametrically opposing ideologies than these two. Wherever communism has taken root the first order of business has been to silence the church and establish a state ran church.

Communism is a horrible system that brings oppression, bondage, poverty, and despair.

Christianity, authentic Christianity, brings freedom, prosperity, and hope. “Jesus came so that we would have life, and have it in its fullest.”

Communism is an economic system, predicated on covetousness, where the State dictates who is deserving of what. Communism is an ideology created by people, full of envy and jealousy, who demand that government take from those they consider rich and give to those they deem poor.

Christianity is a family of God’s children who’ve received His Son as their Lord and who are led by the Holy Spirit.

Communism confiscates or steals from people under the guise of helping those in need. “Ephesians 4:28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.”

Christians give freely with a willing heart. “2 Corinthians 9:7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Communism promises equal outcome, but delivers poverty for all.

Christianity promises God’s provision and delivers prosperity to those who obey. “Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they’ll spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.”

Communism, whenever practiced, leaves devastation. ”For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly ruined.”

Christianity, whenever practiced, brings blessings. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD”

Communists despise those who prosper. “Envy is rottenness to the bones.”

Christians welcome God’s favor. “For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. God is the judge: he puts down one, and sets up another.”

Communists look to government as their source. “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”

Christians look to God as their source. “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”

Communists, socialists, liberals, progressives, democrats, or whatever they’re calling themselves these days; like their father appear caring and altruistic, but are really agents of destruction. “For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as ministers of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself appears as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also appear as servants of righteousness.”

Larry, you miss the very heart of God, who Himself gave freely and wants his children to do the same. The book of Acts records a group of Christians, each one making an individual decision to live together in a commune setting and share their possessions with one another. “Acts 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.”

Notice the differences; 1) They were a family of God’s childrens (believers), not a nation or secular society. 2) They gave their possessions freely, the government did not take it by force. 3) They were like-minded with one heart and one mind, not a diverse group with varying or contrasting moral beliefs.

Larry, as I read your blather, a couple of thoughts from God’s word came to mind

“Jude 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. ”

“2 Peter 3:16 There are some things in those [epistles of Paul] that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction, just as [they distort and misinterpret] the rest of the Scriptures.”

2 Timothy 4:7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

“2 Corinthians 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them who are lost: In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not”

Equating Christianity to communism is absurd!

  7. Merle Hexum

Richard, you are an admitted atheist, yet you think you understand the heart of God. You do not know God, but you think you can speak for Him as concerning what is and what is not acceptable behavior.

    1) Yes I rejoice when the wicked perish!

Proverbs 11:10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

    Proverbs 28:12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.

Psalm 58:10 The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

    2) You accuse me of lying, yet you somehow know instinctively and immediately that I was not sincere in my condolences. Either; A) you really thought that I was trying to deceive you, or, B) you knew I was using satire but wanted to accuse me of lying in order to slander me. I give you more credit than to believe that you are really so naive as to actually think I was attempting to deceive you (lie). I understand that liberals have no sense of humor and are incessantly using political correctness to hinder free speech, but there hang ups are not going to put me in bondage and keep me from using humor to illustrate their absurdities.

  8. Merle Hexum

    Larry,

    1) B. offer assistance?

    2) No, I believe in the 2nd ammendment because the founders of this great nation, who were inspired by God, knew that wicked men would rise up and attempt to rule over the citizens unless they had the ability to defend themselves. No Worries!

    3) I have given myself completely to Jesus (the Christ) and am walking the path with Him.

    4) As a leader of this country (one of the 300,000,000 citizens), it is my responsibility and obligation to support the king (the constitution) from those who would want to detroy him or unseat him. Currently there are many traitors in this nation, enemies of our king (US Constitution), who would like to replace him with a totalitarian government system, including our servant Barack Obama. God’s directives to those in authority is to protect the people from their enemies. Those things said, Larry, you write as though the path of Christ is foreign to you.

  9. Merle Hexum

Larry, now that I`ve answered your questions, maybe you can answer a few of mine.

    1) What do you feel that Christians are to do when they see someone in need; Reach into their own pocket and offer assistance, or apoint dictatorial tyrants to take from others by force and redistribute their wealth?

    2) Goliath came against the children of God and was killing David’s countrymen. David went to Goliath with a weapon (a slingshot and stones) and he killed the evil man. David then picked up another weapon (a sword) and slew Goliath and cut off his head. Was David being disobedient and wicked or was he doing what was just and right?

    3) Jesus admonished us to turn the other cheek. Do you believe that Jesus was telling His followers (individuals) to not be easily offended or hold grudges against those who persecute or abuse you, or, do you believe that Jesus was a pacifist who advocated that his followers be doormats and allow evil men to victimize them and their families, that if a rapist was attempting to rape your daughter or a murderer was about to stab your wife, God would want you to look the other way?

    4) Rulers of a nation have to make decisions as what to do when they are attacked, or even threatened. Are rulers of nations the servants of God ordained to take vengeance on and punish wicked people, or; are they suppose to be pacifists that only use diplomacy, but never use force?

  10. Camilla Ryan

Curly and Larry, some words of advice about comments hung up in the filter. Just write an email to the journal’s email address, Attn Joel Myhre, and tell him some of your mails are obviously hung up in the filter. He generally sees to it that the person assigned to cleanng out the box gets in there and releases (or in the case of your emetic screeds; unleashes) what is hung up there. Of course, you are advised to make a request without calling into question the character and honesty or right to exist of Mr. Myhre, your usual tactics when dealing with anybody who seems to be hesitant to give over whatever you want.
Some of us know another tactic to assure that our comments will be posted, without having to rely on what I detailed above, but no way am I going to advise you how to flood this site with even more of your bilge.

  11. Holly Olsonmunk

Bigot – “a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.” The shoe obviously fits quite well.

  12. Merle Hexum

Larry, your response is probably in jail because it was filled with psycho-babble. I wasn’t looking for a political answer from a pseudo-intellectual. Just the answers to the questions. I will make it easy for you; just select the corresponding letter. Choose (A) or (B) to the 4 following questions. If you want to elaborate afterward, that’s fine, but first answer the questions.

    1)

    A. Reach into their own pocket and offer assistance?

    B. Apoint dictatorial tyrants to take from others by force and redistribute their wealth?

    2)

    A. Was David being disobedient and wicked?

    B. Was David doing what was just and right?

    3)

    A. Do you believe that Jesus was telling His followers (individuals) to not be easily offended or hold grudges against those who persecute or abuse you?

    B. Do you believe that Jesus was a pacifist who advocated that his followers be doormats and allow evil men to victimize them and their families, that if a rapist was attempting to rape your daughter or a murderer was about to stab your wife, God would want you to look the other way?

    4)

    A. Are rulers of nations the servants of God ordained to take vengeance on and punish wicked people?

    B. Are they suppose to be pacifists that only use diplomacy, but never use force?

  13. Merle Hexum

“–I would be reluctant to think I have been given such authority as I am neither Jewish or likely to be God’s choice to lead His kingdom. ”

“rarely do I think I have the right to judge the actions of God”

Larry, you have answered truthfully, even though you just happened to stumble on to the truth.

    1) You are incapable of discerning the actionbs of God.

1 Corinthians 2:12-16 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”But we have the mind of Christ.

    2) You are not a Jew, neither inward or outward.

Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

    3) You are not God’s choice to lead His Kingdom or speak on His behalf.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

  14. Larry Erickson

Merle, your question concerning David and Goliath is asking me to judge God for the path of the rock from David’s sling killed Goliath with the assistance of God–or so the story claims. I try to leave the judgment of God to those who think they ARE god.

  15. Camilla Ryan

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his house, his possessions are safe.” Jesus, in Luke 11:21
