More sheriffs needed to uphold second amendment [UPDATED]

This concept comes from scripture (Numbers 26:2). Jesus instructed His followers to obtain swords for self defense (Luke 22:36), not to kill (Matthew 26:52).
According to the Declaration of Independence, life is a God given right. Since the militia is also God given and Jesus is the Son of God, therefore the right to defend the right to life is also God given.
All government officials take an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, the authority of the United States; which states that it, and all statues and treaties “made in pursuant thereof”, “shall be the supreme Law of the Land.” Not statues, treaties, judicial rulings, executive orders and etc. that violate the rule of law of the U. S. Constitution 28 of Utah’s 29 Sheriffs gathered together and signed a letter opposing and defying federal attempts to infringe on the 2nd Amendment.
As of 2-1-2013, 242 sheriffs had issued similar public letters and statements; as also have a number of police chiefs and county commissioners.
Since crime increases where citizens have been disarmed and since these shootings in the news have been occurring in gun-free zones; for our safety, more Sheriffs, police chiefs, county and city commissioners of more states (including Minnesota) need to have state meetings to sign public statements that they will uphold and protect the 2nd Amendment.

Are fully automatics and short barreled shotguns legal in the United States? Could it be over 80 years ago the Supreme Court determined that Congress can pass laws that restrict the types of guns private citizens may carry? That said, give the name(S) of the person or person’s who have the power to remove guns already in your possession?
I had no idea the Jesus endorsed assault style weapons, unlimited capacity magazines and drums. I don’t know if they had background checks to get a sword in those early days, but if they did I’m sure Jesus was against them.
By the way, Columbine had an armed guard, which the shooters knew about, Fort Knox is not a gun free zone, the Gifford shooting in Tucson occurred with people in the crowd who had guns on their person. But didn’t shoot for fear of hitting innocent bystanders. There are also armed guards at Virginia tech.
That’s really funny (or something) when 28 of 29 Sheriffs sworn to uphold the law gather in Utah to agree they will defy the Federal law they don’t like but will protect the Federal law they do like. I submit one can not depend on any law enforcement office who decides what level of protection he will enforce based upon his personal whim on any particular day.
Does that apply to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Curly? He refuses to enforce immigration laws which Arizona chooses to enforce, and Holder/0bama have filed suit in Federal court to prevent Arizona from enforcing standing law which 0bama/Holder disagree with.
Or, how abour 0bama and Holder refusing to uphold the congressionally passed Defense of Marriage Act because they get the votes and campaign donations of the homsexual special interest groups?

Camilla, you quite correct but as with the conclusion of the letter writer quite irrelevant. We are a nation of the process of law. We have the freedom to ignore indivual laws. We have the freedom to selectively follow only certain laws. But there are also potential consequences if we exercise those freedoms. The actions or lack of actions concerning the DOA are in court. Arizona’s attempt to do something the Federal Government chose not to do went to court.
We are a nation of self-governance. Starting with a perceived need (motive) those we elect create a law. It is then administered by people we’ve hired to do so. If there is a conflict we have conversations and have a decision made by impartial judges based on facts, math and history.
You know yourself the speed limit might be posted at 55mph but it is possible to go faster. And if you go faster the sheriff might chose to stop you and give you a ticket. But say you are on your way to give birth after a complicated pregnancy the judge might chose not to “punish” your act of speeding.
I know our strict Constitutionalist hate this but we are a nation of the process of law with all of the inherent conflicts that suggests. We are NOT a nation of 1776. We ARE a living and changing nation with many of the same needs but many others as well.

As far as the so–called Defense of Marriage act…big deal. That’s not a law so much as it is shoving someone’s religion onto someone else. In any case, no one died because some gay couple got married.

What do choosing not to enforce a law likely to be found unconstitutional (the DOMA) or choosing to use limited federal dollars allotted for immigration law enforcement in a more concentrated manner have anything to do with major felonies or mass murderers? I want to offer you guys my condolences on the loss of one of your own. I can only imagine the devestation and heart break that you guys are experiencing at this time. I cannot believe some of the things written by people on the left. Larry actually compares Christianity to communism! You could not find two more diametrically opposing ideologies than these two. Wherever communism has taken root the first order of business has been to silence the church and establish a state ran church.

Larry, you miss the very heart of God, who Himself gave freely and wants his children to do the same. The book of Acts records a group of Christians, each one making an individual decision to live together in a commune setting and share their possessions with one another. “Acts 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.”
Notice the differences; 1) They were a family of God’s childrens (believers), not a nation or secular society. 2) They gave their possessions freely, the government did not take it by force. 3) They were like-minded with one heart and one mind, not a diverse group with varying or contrasting moral beliefs.

Merle, It is pretty important to believe ALL of the New Testament not just the parts that fit your viewpoint. Act 2:44 describes the practice of pure communism. What ever else you might be describing is not pure communism. It does seem to me you are revealing a little too much of what is truly in your heart. Would that we all could follow in the footsteps of those early Christians and share all; taking only for ourselves what we really need. 2) Goliath came against the children of God and was killing David’s countrymen. David went to Goliath with a weapon (a slingshot and stones) and he killed the evil man. David then picked up another weapon (a sword) and slew Goliath and cut off his head. Was David being disobedient and wicked or was he doing what was just and right?
3) Jesus admonished us to turn the other cheek. Do you believe that Jesus was telling His followers (individuals) to not be easily offended or hold grudges against those who persecute or abuse you, or, do you believe that Jesus was a pacifist who advocated that his followers be doormats and allow evil men to victimize them and their families, that if a rapist was attempting to rape your daughter or a murderer was about to stab your wife, God would want you to look the other way?
4) Rulers of a nation have to make decisions as what to do when they are attacked, or even threatened. Are rulers of nations the servants of God ordained to take vengeance on and punish wicked people, or; are they suppose to be pacifists that only use diplomacy, but never use force?
Merle, the constitution is NOT Caesar, the people are. The Constitution was a document created to allow us to live together and freedoms to live apart. How can I make this claim? Because we know “We The People” can change the Constitution. It is a fact of history we can choose to limit the types of guns private citizens can “bear”. (Fully automatics and short barreled shotguns to name two.)
Second, the claim the Constitution was created by God fearing men might very well be accurate, but it is NOT accurate to claim they were Christians. So who/what was the God they feared? We don’t know. Our discussion, yours and mine, has been focused on the path of the Christian God. That is where we should stay.
You ask how should a Christian help the poor? I say as we are able, by majority vote, through taxes and spending we can choose that process as one vehicle through which we offer help–remember that money in your bank account belongs in part to Caesar and the rest to God. (Part of the path Christ walked)
When agents of Caesar came to arrest Jesus, Peter pulled his sword. Jesus told Peter directly to put away your sword for “Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.” I can not find arming myself to resist “Caesar” consistent with Christ’s command. (Part of the path Christ walked.)
And lastly, “The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want.” How many sheep carry AK-47′s?
Merle, there is a price a Christian pays to be worthy to be known as Christian and that price is a surrender of one’s self, fears, worries, false sense of human strength. We, like the wealthy man, are instructed to give all to the poor; our trust in Him, not in the tools of our own devices; our money, property or guns. In return we receive companionship while we walk the path of Christ.

Until my more compete response is released from comment jail consider this–unless some miracle of the “loaves and fishes” variety was forthcoming one might wonder why Jesus thought a couple of swords (2) would be enough for protection from a whole Roman legion or an equally hostile Jewish city. Could it be his disciples/followers misunderstood His “get swords” remark just as the letter writer seems to have misunderstood?
Curly and Larry, some words of advice about comments hung up in the filter. Just write an email to the journal’s email address, Attn Joel Myhre, and tell him some of your mails are obviously hung up in the filter. He generally sees to it that the person assigned to cleanng out the box gets in there and releases (or in the case of your emetic screeds; unleashes) what is hung up there. Of course, you are advised to make a request without calling into question the character and honesty or right to exist of Mr. Myhre, your usual tactics when dealing with anybody who seems to be hesitant to give over whatever you want.

Richard, have you ever heard of multiple choice? There pretty simple questions, either David’s action were just or they were evil.
Merle, it’s not multiple choice when you limit the choice to just the choices you select in order to direct someone to the answer you desire. David’s (if he ever existed) actions may have been just to a certain point and unjust after that point. We will never know because the fantasy story only gives the account according to one side.
