Richard Allen Aanerud, 82, of Norcross

He was born on December 5, 1930, son of Joseph and Grace (Schoonover) Aanerud in Minneapolis. The family later moved to Delaware Township in Grant County. He attended District 26 Country School and later graduated in 1948 from Elbow Lake High School. He married Gloria Lindblom on June 5, 1955, and enlisted in the Army later that year. After serving at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, he returned to begin farming in North Ottawa Township. Richard and Gloria farmed together and had five children. Over the years, they raised oats, wheat, barley, corn, sunflowers, soybeans, and sugar beets. Farming and family went together as he farmed with his father first, brother Dean, and eventually his sons, James and Jerry.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Richard was an active member of the Grace Evangelical Free Church and was a man of faith. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the local cafes.
Richard is survived by his children: daughters Karla (Tom) Sargent of Sioux Falls, SD, Karen (Tim) Sinner of Jamestown, ND, and Vicki (Dean) Ellis of Ashby and sons James (Tarah) Aanerud of Elbow Lake and Jerry (Melissa) Aanerud of Dalton; 14 grandchildren, Jill (Joel) Herman, Lisa (Jayson) Ackerson, Eric (Jennifer) Sinner, Brett and Brian Sinner, Grant, Lynn and Naomi Ellis, Alysa, Alayna, and Austin Aanerud, and Evan and Ryan Aanerud; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Julia Herman; a sister Marilynn (Gene) Larson of Elbow Lake and a brother Dean (Elvina) Aanerud of Wasilla, AK; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, March 11 at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elbow Lake with the Rev. Jerry Bauman officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Herman. Visitation will be held at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elbow Lake on Sunday from 5-7 pm and will resume one hour prior to the service on Monday.
