Several sentenced for DWI in Otter Tail County [UPDATED]

The following individuals were recently sentenced for DWI in Otter Tail County District Court:

• Karen Elizabeth Goodwin, 23, of Alexandria, pleaded guilty Monday in Otter Tail County District Court to gross misdemeanor DWI. She was sentenced to 180 days in Otter Tail County Jail, with 170 days stayed for six years. She is to serve 10 days. She was also sentenced to six years supervised probation.

A preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol level was 0.129. She was arrested and taken to the Otter Tail County detention facility where she indicated that she would not take a breath test without an attorney present, according to the report. She was taken to Prairie St. John’s and placed on a mental health hold.

• Derek William Butenas, 23, of Fargo, N.D., pleaded guilty Monday in Otter Tail County District Court to gross misdemeanor DWI. He was sentenced to 365 days in Otter Tail County Jail, with 315 days stayed for six years. He is to serve 50 days. He was also sentenced to six years supervised probation.

According to the criminal complaint, Butenas was stopped by an Otter Tail County deputy at 10:02 p.m. Aug. 3, 2012 near 450th Street and County Hwy. 9. Butenas did not adequately perform field sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level was 0.24. He was arrested and taken to the Otter Tail County detention facility where a breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.21.

Butenas was also convicted in March 2009 in Clay County for a misdemeanor DWI.
