The board of the Fergus Falls Area-Wilkin County chapter of Thrivent members recently met to welcome new board members, and to discuss upcoming events for 2013.balanced

Several special events were discussed, including sponsoring a night at A Center For The Arts Summer Play. Last year this was very popular and several board members heard requests that it be done again this summer.

As a fraternal benefit society, Thrivent gives back to the community, and the local board is given the responsibility of dispersing funds, using guidelines set up by the parent organization.

This past year $18,000 was given to local individuals and families needing financial assistance because of a medical or similar catastrophe. These funds matched $1 for $2 raised through benefits on the recipients behalf, up to $1,500. In addition, more than $4,000 were given to community projects.

New members Chuck Erickson, Gary Erickson and Don Wiek join current members: Patti Rix (President), Travis Martinson (Financial), Gail Meyer (Care in Community Coordinator), Tom Rasmusson (Event Coordinator), Shirley Berndt (Recorder), Tracy Bucholtz (Assistant Financial), Ethan Bjornlie (Congregational Advocate Coordinator), Pastor Phil Tobin (Youth). Appreciation was given to Rachel Ronnevik, who is leaving the Thrivent chapter board after four years of service.
