Richard Arvid Sonmor was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Dalton, the son of Ernest and Dorothy (Schroeder) Sonmor.
From 1957 to 1969, he graduated from U.S. Army Ranger School and served in the Vietnam War, working with Hawk Missile Systems.
Richard married Patricia Christiansen on June 12, 1965, in El Paso, Texas.
After his military service, he received his G.E.D. and then attended schooling for Industrial Mechanics at Southwest Oregon Community College in Coos Bay.
During schooling, Richard worked as a logger and a handyman.
From 1977 to 1987, he worked in construction building pole barns, and farming in the Nashua and Ashby area.
In 1987, Richard and Patti moved to Erhard where they farmed and raised beef cattle.
He enjoyed farming and restoring tractors.
Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patti”, Erhard; sons, Michael Sonmor and Charles (Jennifer) Sonmor, both of Erhard; a brother, Robert (Verna) Sonmor, Pine City, and Thomas Adamson, Greenville, Texas; a sister, Linda (Bob) Studt, Lake Ozark, Mo.; a brother-in-law, James (Joan) Christensen, Michigan, a sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Kurt) Pickering, Defiance, Ohio; aunt, Ella Sonmor, Dalton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger; a sister, Dawn O’Neil; and aunts, Sally and Ollie.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Friday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Erhard
