Elbow Lake free-lance outdoor writer Mike Frisch was recently named a MidWest Outdoors Magazine 2012 Readers’ Choice Award winner.
MidWest Outdoors is one of the Midwest’s most popular outdoor publications. Award winners are chosen by a vote of the magazine’s readers. Frisch has been writing for MidWest Outdoors for 18 years.
Frisch’s bio in the magazine’s February 2013 Minnesota Section read as follows: “I have been privileged to have had several very meaningful mentors in my fishing, hunting, and outdoor writing career.
“First, I owe my love of the outdoors to my dad and grandfather who got me started hunting and fishing 40-plus years ago. They always had room for me in the boat or on a deer hunting trip. Some of my most memorable times in the outdoors were spent chasing deer, fish, and birds in North Dakota with Dad and Grandpa!
“I owe a great deal to Bob Jensen, of Fishing the Midwest TV, as he helped me a great deal when I first started in the fishing and writing business 20-years ago,” said Frisch. “Guys like Bob, and also Duane Peterson from Northland Tackle, were always there to offer advice or guidance.Today, those guys are still two of my closest friends and mentors.”
“Today, my most favorite hunting or fishing trips are simple, close-to-home adventures with family or close friends.
“A day chasing walleyes with my mom and dad on a Minnesota lake or an evening in the tree stand with my daughter are about as good as it gets for me,” Frisch said. “As I’ve gotten older, I realize it’s more about time spent with people I cherish than it is about the number of fish caught or game harvested.”
