RTC best festival location [UPDATED]

Considering its success last year, it made sense that the SummerFest committee decided to have the annual Fergus Falls festival at the RTC campus grounds again this summer.

For festival attendees, the location is ideal. There’s plenty of parking, lots of space for vendors, and lovely picnic areas set against the backdrop of the beautiful Kirkbride tower.

Considering the ongoing effort to find a tenant for the Kirkbride building, providing the facility extra visibility certainly doesn’t hurt.

Some may argue that SummerFest should be held on Lincoln Avenue downtown to benefit downtown businesses.

However, we’re not sure SummerFest provides enough of such benefits. Through its craft vendors, food vendors, kids activities and live entertainment, SummerFest is essentially self-contained.

We believe community leaders should explore more ways to promote downtown Fergus Falls.

However, for SummerFest, the RTC campus seems to be the best fit.
