Fans, parents and fellow students welcomed back the Fergus Falls Otter athletes that participated in state tournaments over the last few weeks at the Kennedy Secondary Gold Gym Sunday.

The most recent state entrant, the Fergus Falls Otter girls, returned home after falling in the quarterfinals of the Class AAA state tournament to the Monticello Magic 79-78 in double overtime.

The girls won the Section 8AAA title defeating the Alexandria Cardinals 55-54 at St. John’s University March 8.

The school also recognized the entrants in the Class A State Swimming and Diving competition, which was held on Feb. 28-March 2.

Otter swimmers Joe Kitzman, Cal Mouritsen, Clay Danielson, Daniel Kowalski, Luke Raitz and divers Michael Aasness and Reid Magnusson helped the Otters finish sixth as a team in the event held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Aasness placed second in diving, the highest for a Fergus diver at the meet.

Last, but certainly not least, state wrestlers Abbot Aho, Tyler Giza, Dane Ringquist and Gus Makovsky were also present.

Aho was the top finisher for the Otters taking second in the 113 lbs. weight class, while Giza finished in fifth in the 120 lbs. weight class.
