Wind, snow create frenzy
Published 11:29am Tuesday, March 19, 2013Highways are reopening in western Minnesota after a late-winter storm dumped up to 5 inches of snow, but no travel is advised.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Interstate 94 from Moorhead to Alexandria, Highway 10 from Moorhead to Audubon and Highway 210 from Breckenridge to Fergus Falls all reopened around 5 p.m. Monday. But driving remains difficult.
School districts in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area — including Underwood, Battle Lake, Ashby, West Central Area, Rothsay and Pelican Rapids — were two hours late due to the road conditions.
The National Weather Service says the storm dumped up to 4.4 inches of snow in Fergus Falls, 5 inches of snow in the Alexandria area. Long Prairie received 4 inches, Little Falls 3.5 inches and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport 3.10 inches.
Wind gusts in Fergus Falls exceeded 45 miles per hour.
