Son pawned parents’ jewelry

A 19-year-old Fergus Falls man who stole and then pawned rings and a watch from his parents was sentenced to jail time and probation.

Alex Michael Johnson, was sentenced Friday, March 15 in Otter Tail County District Court to 60 days in Otter Tail County Jail and five years supervised probation for felony theft. He pleaded guilty Jan. 28.

According to the criminal complaint, a man from Golden Lakes Pawn Shop in Fergus Falls contacted authorities Oct. 16, 2012 when the pawn of seven rings and a pocket watch made by Johnson appeared suspicious. Johnson reportedly pawned the jewelry for $140. An officer spoke with Johnson’s parents, and his father later confirmed the jewelry was theirs. The total value of the rings was $4,005 and the watch was $300.
