Fergus Falls — A Center for the Arts is proud of its children’s choirs and will be showcasing their incredible talents at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 at AC4TA’s Fergus Theatre, 124 W. Lincoln Ave., downtown Fergus Falls. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call AC4TA at 218-998-ARTS (2787) or visit www.FergusArts.org.

A Center for the Arts has three children’s choirs separated by grade: Grades K-1, Grades 2-3, and Grades 4-6.

The Grades 4-6 choir is directed by Joni Wasberg, Music Specialist at Cleveland Elementary School.

They meet on Tuesdays after school during the school year. The choir will be performing several pieces including “Kyrie Canon” by Andy Beck, the lively “Ching A Ring Chaw” by Linda Spevacek, “Looking-Glass River” which is based on a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, and a whimsical song about some unusual animals in “A Menagerie of Songs” by Carolyn Jennings. Her choir is accompanied on piano by Cathy Tungseth.

Rebecca Sonmor teaches the two younger groups (Grade K-1 and Grade 2-3). These two groups are working together to perform a mini musical of “The Selfish Giant” based on the story by Oscar Wilde. Sonmor’s choirs meet at her studio across the street from AC4TA above the Senior Center. She also teaches private voice lessons in her studio.

The choir students are from the Fergus Falls area (public, private and home-schooled children), Underwood, and as far away as Wahpeton.
