3 Otters receive all-state recognitionPublished 10:50am Wednesday, March 27, 2013
The Fergus Falls girls basketball team continues to get well deserved recognition even after the season has ended, this time with the selection of Brianna Rasmusson and Bailey Strand to the Class AAA all-state girls basketball team and with Anna Monke selected for honorable mention all-state. Having three players named from one team is a rarity and is the first time the Fergus Falls girls team has had three players honored in one season. Last year, Mariah Monke was selected all-state and Sydney Schultz received honorable mention.
Led by Rasmusson, Strand and Monke, the team won 29 straight games, a Fergus Falls basketball record for boys or girls, and finished 29-1 for the year.
Strand set an all-time Fergus Falls girls basketball record by scoring 588 points for the season, passing former Otter standout Hannah Draxten who had 562 season points.
Rasmusson set the all-time single season assist record with 211 assists, 79 more than the previous record set by former Otter coach Denny Hanson’s daughter Kim with 132. Rasmusson has also set the all-time career assist record, standing at season’s end with 479 career assists, already 111 over the previous record of 368. With another year to play, Rasmusson is sure to pass the milestone record of 500 career assists. Anna Monke joined Strand and Rasmusson this year in going over the 1,000 career points mark, the first time an Otter team has ever had three 1,000 point scorers on the same team.
The good news for coach Brad Strand and all the devoted Otter girls basketball team fans is that all three girls are juniors and will be back playing for the Otters again next season.
