‘D’ fuels Rockets to win

UNDERWOOD — After a back and forth battle in the first half, the hosting Rocket boys were able to pull away in the second half and claim a 58-42 win over Brandon-Evansville in the Section 6A playoffs Monday.

Both teams walked on the court and knew what was at stake. Fans witnessed a typical Little Eight Conference match up as the teams traded baskets for most of the half. The Rockets were able to leave the court holding a slim 25-24 lead over the Chargers at the break.

In the second half, Underwood came out fired up on defense, forcing Brandon-Evansville to take several contested shots in the game. The Rockets would pull away from there as they claimed the victory.

Zane Lind had another great night for the Rockets as he dropped in 20 points and yanked down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Teammate Chase Collins matched his scoring output with 20 tallies and Adam Creek chipped in 11.

The Chargers were led by standout John Haseman, who recorded a double-double of 22 marks and 13 boards.

B-E struggled from the field in the game as they went on to shoot only 28 percent, while Underwood finished the evening with 46 percent shooting.

The Chargers end their season with a 9-17 record and will see six seniors graduate in the spring.

The Rockets will continue their playoff push Thursday as they travel to take on Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in a 7 p.m. playoff showdown.
