A Fergus Falls man has been charged with a felony after he allegedly helped another man fraudulently use a credit card.

Jared Scott Dewey, 26, was charged Feb. 25 in Otter Tail County District Court with financial transaction card fraud, a felony. His first court appearance was Wednesday, March 20.

According to the criminal complaint, a man who had been discharged from a trucking business in Detroit Lakes in early December 2012 used a company credit card later that month for unauthorized purchases totaling more than $1,000 in Becker County, and the Super 8 and Big Chief Truck Stop in Fergus Falls. The man allegedly requested Dewey, an employee of Big Chief Truck Stop, advance him cash on the credit card and enter the card number in a cash machine for withdrawal. Dewey reportedly bought two cartons of cigarettes with the card and signed receipts for the man. Dewey was also reportedly aware he was assisting with charges on the truck company’s card.

Dewey’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 1.
