Hellesvig plays Norwegian immigrant Monday [UPDATED]

Published 9:10am Friday, March 29, 2013 Updated 11:14am Friday, March 29, 2013

On Monday, April 1, Roger Hellesvig, an educator from Minneapolis, will be portraying Ole Oleson, a Norwegian immigrant at the Fergus Falls Sons of Norway meeting, scheduled at 6:45 p.m. Monday, at the YMCA, and Monday at two area schools.

Using an immigrant trunk as a focal point, he tells what it was like to immigrate to America. He shares some of the choices he and his family had to make while packing the trunk.

Roger has been involved in living history for 14 years. Hellesvig’s ancestry is Norwegian so he has studied his family history and the Norwegian language incorporating this into his presentation as a Norwegian immigrant.

Ole Oleson is a fresh look at Norwegian immigration in the 19th century. His hands on approach gives the audience a real feeling for these new arrivals.

His presentation is sponsored by Heimskringla Lodge of the Sons of Norway in Fergus Falls.
