Hillcrest Lutheran Academy took three teams to the High School Knowledge Bowl meet at Concordia on Wednesday, placing third, seventh, and seventeenth out of 34 teams.

The field was comprised of teams from Region four in Minnesota plus a few teams from ND and SD. Hillcrest competed in the small school division.

The students on the Hillcrest I team included Chris Bigelow, Chad Hermes, Jared Kugler, Jordan Konynenbelt, and Jaron Olsoe. On team II were Brandon Doering, Rena Fedorova, Kris Lein, Tony Preston, and Quincy Undseth. The members of team III were Nathan Doering, Jonathan Eckhardt, Luke Jennen, Kevy Konynenbelt, Vanessa Konynenbelt, and Amy Zimmerman.

The 60 questions used for the written exam and 45 questions for each of four oral rounds are taken mainly from the Minnesota high school curriculum and a few current events.

The Knowledge Bowl program provides an opportunity for students to use their knowledge in a team setting and meet students from other schools.

Four of the five team members on the Hillcrest first team have been together on a Knowledge Bowl team since 7th grade. The coach for the Hillcrest teams is Jane Uggerud.
