FF bowlers qualify for state tournamentPublished 10:37am Friday, April 5, 2013
The GMHSB Central Northwest conference tournament was held in Brainerd on Sunday, March 24.
Fergus Falls and St Cloud SW went in to the tournament seeded one and two, with both teams earning first round byes in the elimination bracket. As it turned out, the byes did neither team any good, as the two top seeds both fell in their first matches, setting up the championship match between the number four seed, Brainerd, and the number three seed, St Cloud NE.
Brainerd took control early, winning the first two games in the best-of-five match, but St Cloud NE would not be denied, as they came back to take the final three games, including a nail-biter 212-208 win in the deciding game five. With the victory, St Cloud NE earned a spot in the State Tournament, along with the winners of the other five conference tournaments.
The GMHSB State Tournament will field 16 teams. After the six conference tournament winners are determined, the remaining ten teams will be selected based on regular season match winning percentage. The Fergus Falls team qualified based on their 12-3 record, which ranked them number seven overall out of 39 teams in the State. St Cloud SW also qualified for the tournament, finishing at number nine.
The 2013 Girls MHSB State Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 20 at Northern Aire Lanes in Fergus Falls. The tournament action will start at 10 a.m.
The 2013 All-Conference Tournament will be held on Sunday, April 21 at Jack’s House in Brainerd. Four members of the Fergus Falls team will be representing the Central Northwest Conference, they are Emma Devorak, Olivia Anderson, Mary Gettel, and Chantelle Ward.
