A woman who allegedly stole a squad car, struck a police officer and led police on a chase through Fergus Falls last fall has been sentenced in Otter Tail County District Court to four years of supervised probation for one felony count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and 365 days in jail, to serve 124 days, for one gross misdemeanor count of criminal vehicular homicide or operation.
Naveena Pearl Bad Moccasin, 23, of Fergus Falls, was being interviewed by police around 12:40 a.m. Nov. 10, 2012. The officer reportedly left Bad Moccasin in the squad car in the parking lot of the detox facility and shortly after saw the backup lights illuminate on the squad car, the report says.
One officer tried to stop the vehicle on foot but was thrown to the ground, according to the report. A chase ensued through town, with Bad Moccasin reaching speeds up to 50 mph, according to the report. Her blood alcohol level was reportedly 0.218.
She eventually pulled the car over and was then taken to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.
The officer struck by the squad car was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
