LYRA in concert [UPDATED]Published 10:17am Thursday, April 25, 2013 Updated 12:20pm Thursday, April 25, 2013
LYRA, an a cappella group of five professional vocalists from St. Petersburg, Russia, will present a concert of Russian choral music at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham.
The public is invited to share this very special event.
The first part of the concert — sacred music of Russian Orthodox Church, includes works of famous masters and little-known but remarkable Russian composers of 18th – 20th centuries.
The second part of their program is made up of Russian folk songs: comic, lyric, dancing, love songs. The duration of the concert is 60 – 70 minutes.
This is a unique opportunity to share the enormous Russian musical heritage. Come and enjoy the sounds of Russia as interpreted by real Russians. Their sound – without microphones- fills the church completely with resonance rarely heard without accompaniment.
All the singers are professionals, singing in different professional choirs and opera houses of St. Petersburg. If you enjoy voice, do not miss this wonderful evening.

The Fergus Falls observance of the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer will take place on Thursday, May 2. The theme for this year is “Pray For America.” It’s based on Matthew 12:21, “In His Name the nations will put their hope.”
Everyone is invited to gather on the city hall lawn for a time to focus on prayer for our nation from Noon to approximately 12:30 p.m. The City Hall Council Chamber will be available in case of bad weather. Prayer guides will be available.
This year our mayor, superintendent of schools, chamber of commerce director and other community leaders will lead times of prayer on each topic in the prayer guide. Then people will be encouraged to pray in small groups for that topic. This is an informal gathering, so come when you can and leave when you need to, but come together and pray.
