Allen Dale Hanson, 82, of Tellico Village in Tennessee

Allen Hanson, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.

He was born May 15, 1930, in Minneapolis, the son of the Rev. Albert and Lillie Hanson, Lutheran missionaries to Madagascar.

Allen attended high school in Fergus Falls and spent his college years at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. During the Korean conflict, he was a communications specialist on active duty in the Army and in the National Guard.

He married Jeanette Van Sickle on June 27, 1952. Allen’s business career included commodities and futures trading on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange and the Inter-Mountain Stock Exchange.

His commitment to public speaking and writing evolved around Lutheran Prison Ministry for almost 35 years.

An avid traveler, his work and interests took him many places in the U.S. and abroad, but he always returned to his lakeside home in Ottertail, where he enjoyed boating and swimming.

For 20 years, he and Jeanette resided in Concordia, Mo., on the campus of St. Paul Lutheran High School. Most recently he resided at Tellico Village, Tenn.

Allen is survived by his wife, Jeanette of the home; four daughters, Shari and Marvin Weber, Vassar, Kansas, Sue and Mike Hale, Anchorage, Alaska, Shirley and Brian Truog, Loudon, Tenn.; Nan and John Walsh, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Alan Meixner.

A service of celebration was held April 16, 2013, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Loudon, Tenn., with burial at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hewitt.

Memorials may be designated to Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Loudon, Tenn., Lutheran Prison Ministry, Loudon, Tenn., or St. Paul Lutheran High School, Concordia, Mo.
