Area artists featured on M State campusPublished 11:23am Thursday, April 4, 2013
Walks through Legacy Hall at the M State campus have been a bit more interesting the last few weeks. The college has been hosting its annual Area Invitational Arts Show and the pieces on display are better than ever.
“Over the years the work has gotten better,” said curator Warren Olsen. “We’ve always had good work, but I would say this year that it is very strong.”
Turnout for the event has also been substantial, with members of the art community coming out in support of artists.
“We have a guest book with several pages filled,” said Olsen. “We’ll expect to keep having six to seven shows a year.”
Artists from the Fergus area to Moorhead have been put on display during this show, including several who have attended or been associated with M State in the past. Local artist Charles Beck also has pieces on display.
Variety is also a theme throughout all the work, from 3D pieces including wood carvings to work that mixes visual and audio components.
The public is encouraged to continue viewing the pieces, which will be on display through April 6.
A public reception will be held at Legacy Hall on that date from 1 p.m. to 3.
While the work will be taken down at that point, Olsen said the college always likes to purchase one piece a year to keep on display around the campus.
“Essentially, we have art here because we have the philosophy that it’s good for students to have art around them while they learn,” said Olsen.
