Evelyn Clara Erstad, 94, a resident of South Shore Care Center in Worthington, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the center.0425.obit.Erstad

Evelyn was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Ruthton, to Einar and Kristi Bjelland Risting. She grew up on the family farm near Ruthton and graduated from Balaton High School in 1935.

Evelyn then attended Northwestern Bible School in South Minneapolis.

On Jan. 11, 1941 she married Reuben Erstad at Skandia Evangelical Free parsonage in rural Balaton. Following their marriage they farmed the Erstad family farm near Lake Wilson and raised their 13 children.

They retired in 1974, but remained on the farm until 1984, when they moved to Worthington.

Reuben passed away on Oct. 27, 1991.

In 2009, Evelyn became a resident of the She was a member of Skandia Evangelical Free Church in rural Balaton and in her younger years Evelyn sang in the church choir and was active with the Women’s Missionary Society. While living in Worthington Evelyn attended First Covenant Church in Worthington.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing Scrabble, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and singing.

Survivors include her 13 children, Karen Erstad of Rosemount, Kenneth and Sharon Erstad of Welch, Okla., Eldon and Jan Erstad of Maple Lake, Harvey and Peggy Erstad of Burnsville, Ruth Erstad of Bloomington, Neil and Cheryl Erstad of Plymouth, Gerry Erstad and Ruth Kruger of Worthington, Lois Erstad of Fulda, Carol and John Duve of La Jolla, Calif., Roger and Suzanne Erstad of Fergus Falls, Myron and Laurie Erstad of Mankato, Lyle and Nancy Erstad Palatine, Ill., and Dean and Anne Erstad of Janesville, Wis.; 32 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reuben; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Erstad; and one brother, Emmett Risting and his wife, Ellen.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at First Covenant Church in Worthington, with the Rev. John Stewart officiating. A service is also planned at 2 p.m. Friday, at Skandia Evangelical Free Church in rural Balaton, with Rev. Ryan Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Skandia Cemetery in rural Balaton.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m., at First Covenant Church in Worthington, and one hour prior to the services at both churches on Friday.
