Fergus’ Lausch wins at MoorheadPublished 10:59am Wednesday, May 1, 2013
MOORHEAD — The Fergus Falls boys golf team hit the links for the first time this season and golfer Keaton Lausch walked away with first place honors as the Otters took second at Village Green Golf Course in the Moorhead triangular Tuesday.
Lausch shot a 78, despite trecherous winds, to earn medalist honors. Teammates Chris Swenson (83), Levi Soydara (87), Will Haas (92), Andrew MacFarlane (104) were able to help the Otters to a second place finish behind Moorhead (335) with a 340 team score. Fargo North finished in third with a 348 team score.
“We have only had one day on the range at the golf course so we were more focused on just being able to stay mentally strong throughout the round,” Otters’ coach Ben Jurgens said. “We know that our numbers will lower with time put in at the course as it warms in the weeks to come.”
The junior varsity also got to compete at the course as the golf season looks to go into full swing.
The Otters will now prep for a big 16-team tournament held at Pebble Lake Golf Course Friday and Saturday. The tournament was originally going to be held in Fargo, but due to flood conditions it was moved. Fergus is set to tee-off around 12 p.m.
