Dana Thompson and Eric Christopher with their new band will perform a bluegrass music concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Cultural Center in New York Mills.
Thompson and Christopher will be at the Cultural Center along with two percussionists for this concert. Admission is $12 advance reservation (218-385-3339) or $15 at the door. Student admission is $5.
Born in Sandstone, raised in Hibbing, graduating from high school in Duluth, and having lived in Minneapolis for most of her adult life, Thompson is truly the “Girl From the North Country.” Music and writing have been integral throughout her life, whether through theater, choir, singing or writing songs with bands.
Thompson has received the City Pages’ Best Female Vocalist award, and is a founding member of The Strawdogs, Hot Head Fiasco, Marina Glass, The Minor Planets, as well as fronting her own band, Dana Thompson and the North Coast.
She has enjoyed touring the U.S. and Europe in support of her critically-acclaimed first solo record, Ox.
Eric Christopher was a winner of the Minnesota State Arts Board Grant and the RockyGrass Bluegrass Competition.
He has toured nationally with bluegrass legend James King and performed or recorded with dozens of bluegrass and Americana artists, including Alan Munde (Flying Burrito Brothers), Vic Chesnutt, The High 48s and Tina Schlieske.
