The M State baseball team finally stepped foot on their home field and opened it up with class as they swept the visiting Ridgewater Warriors in a doubleheader Wednesday.
The Spartans were able to rally back in the first game as Dylan DeJong found a gap for a game winning single in the 5-4 win.
M State struck first as a Pete Gaustad fielder’s choice saw Kyle Singer score the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. The Warriors were able to gain the lead in the top of the second as they scored four runs.
The home team would not lay down as the Spartans would tie the game up in the fifth with RBI by Brady Paul (2) and Gaustad.
DeJong would deliver the walkoff single with two outs to give M State game one.
Gaustad got the win on the mound as he went the distance, fanning 11 players and allowing four runs.
The Spartans wouldn’t make it close in game two as they defeated the Warriors 13-3.
M State jumped out to an astounding lead as they plated four runs in the first and five in the second.
Gaustad led the Spartan hitters going 3-for-3 with two RBI, while teammate Cole Easley went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Luke Schwarz got the win for the Spartans as allowed six hits and two runs in five innings of work.
The Spartans will now travel to Worthington on Saturday to take on Minnesota West in a doubleheader.
