Arrows sail past CometsPublished 10:18am Tuesday, May 7, 2013
One team is still looking to find their groove, while the other looks to be in mid-season form.
When the Hillcrest Comets and the Ashby Arrows took the field Monday, it became obvious to fans and coaches alike which team was better prepared.
“We were completely outplayed in every phase of the game,” Comet coach Steve Undseth said of the doubleheader sweep. “The Arrows outhit, outpitched, outfielded, and outran us. It was a very disappointing result for our team.”
The Arrows opened the day in dominating fashion as they took game one 12-2.
The Comets would jump out to an early lead in the second inning off a Quincey Undseth single, but the Arrows would close the door in the bottom half as they scored four runs of their own.
Ashby’s Blake Ohren finished the game 3 for 3, nearly hitting for the cycle, and scoring two runs.
Reed Hanson got the win for the Arrows as he went the distance allowing seven hits and one earned. Hanson was also was a threat from the plate as he finished the day with three hits and two RBI.
The Comets Connor Aasness and Skyler Ruf each contributed a double and a single for Hillcrest in the loss.
Capturing the momentum early on in the day, the Arrows acted as the first game hadn’t ended as they cruised to a 7-1 victory.
Ashby never trailed in the game as they converted seven runs on 11 hits.
Ohren, toeing the rubber for the home team, fanned six Comet players and scattered five hits.
Theo Taylor was the lone bright spot for Hillcrest in game two as he belted a double and single.
The Arrows were firing on all cylinders as they produced 24 hits and 19 runs in the two game series. The Comets perspective was more bleak than positive as they committed six errors.
The Arrows will look to continue their hot start to the season as they travel to take on Parkers Prairie in a 5 p.m. Friday game. The Comets will have little time to adjust as they hit the road to take on the Barnesville Trojans Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
