Trojans waylay Comets 17-10Published 10:42am Wednesday, May 8, 2013
BARNESVILLE – After falling behind by 10 runs in the first inning, the writing was on the wall for the visiting Hillcrest Comets.
The Barnesville Trojans looked like the more seasoned team as they coasted to a 17-10 victory over the Comets Tuesday.
After scoring the opening run, Hillcrest saw the Trojans bat around its lineup on the way to taking an 11-1 lead. Barnesville would add two more runs in the third inning, but a breathe of new life came into the Comets as they were able to knock in five runs in the top of the fourth.
Hillcrest would once again threaten in the sixth inning, but the damage had already been done as the Trojans secured the win.
“That first inning was a mess,” Hillcrest coach Undseth reflected, “but we were given plenty of opportunities to get back in the game. We left the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third twice.”
Connor Aasness was the run producer for the Comets in the game as he punched in three runs and scored three in a two for four effort. Teammate Skyler Ruf went three for four with two runs batted in.
The Comets fall to 2-4 on the season and will continue to play road warriors as they travel to Hancock Friday for a 4 p.m. Pheasant Conference showdown with the Owls.
