Police: Know who your kids’ friends are [UPDATED]Published 9:37am Thursday, May 9, 2013 Updated 11:40am Thursday, May 9, 2013
Fergus Falls police want parents to make sure they know the whereabouts of their children, following three missing children reports Wednesday.
“I would just encourage parents to maybe talk to their kids about notifying them on where they’re going,” Police Chief Kile Bergren said.
Spring is a common time when missing children reports occur, according to police. Two 7 year olds and a 9 year old were reported missing to police Wednesday but were later found and returned to their parents.
“It’s easy for the kids to get caught in play and doing things with their friends,” Bergren said.
It’s important for parents to talk to their kids about being responsible, and also to know who their friends are, along with the names, phone numbers and addresses of the friends’ parents. It might even be a good idea to keep a list at home with this information for quick access in case a stressful situation would arise, police said.
