Theatre, offices get a new look [UPDATED]Published 9:23am Thursday, May 9, 2013 Updated 11:25am Thursday, May 9, 2013
There is never a dull moment at A Center for the Arts. Think it’s quiet because there are no shows on our calendar? Think again. We are in the middle of more than one project, and there is actually quite a bit happening around here.
We do technically have a show this weekend. The Fergus Falls High School is doing their spring play here at the Fergus Theatre.
The play is Shirley Lauro’s “A Piece of my Heart,” about six women’s experiences serving in Vietnam.
Performances are 7 p.m. tonight and at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The school has been in the theater for a couple weeks getting the stage and lights set, rehearsing, and preparing for an audience.
In the meantime, we are in the process of a huge office remodel.
We are rearranging where each of our offices are, as well as getting rid of old office furniture and replacing it with new furniture that we received for free from Mahube-Otwa.
We will end up with a new reception area and meeting space because of our new configuration.
It looks a little bit like a tornado came through right now, but when it’s done it will be really nice.
Besides our office remodel, we are getting ready to do some major renovation in the theater itself.
We have theater seats from the Ordway’s McKnight Theater coming this week. After the high school moves out we will start the process of removing our old theater seats, painting the interior of the theater, and installing the new seats. Our entire center section of seats will be replaced, and the side sections will be redone so that all of the seats are wider seats.
There is quite a cost for the seats, including moving, installing, altering our theatre to accommodate the new seats, and more. Plus, volunteer labor will be needed to help with the preparation and installation of the new seats.
If you are willing to donate time, money, or both, we are in need and would greatly appreciate it.
And we’re not done yet. On Monday, tickets go on sale for the Fergus Falls School of Dance Spring show. They are sold here at A Center for the Arts.
The first week of sales is just for parents of dancers who have received vouchers for the specific show their child is in. The following week, starting on May 21, tickets will go on sale to the general public.
Also on May 21, tickets officially go on sale for our Children’s Theater production of Disney’s The Jungle Book as well as our summer musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
We are gearing up with auditions on Saturday, May 18.
If your child would like to be a part of Jungle Book, please call us at 218-736-5453 to sign up for an audition time-slot.
We ask that kids sign-up in advance.
If you are 17 or older and would like to audition for our summer musical, we ask that you call and let us know if you want to audition on Thursday, May 16 or Saturday, May 18. Auditions for the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday or from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
