BATTLE LAKE — With 80 degree temperatures and a cool breeze, the Otter Tail Central track and field team hosted its invitational track meet Monday.
The hosting Otter Tail Central Bulldog boys were able to claim its home title (160.5) as it had nine first place finishes.
Petric VanErp and Steffan Stroh took home two first place finishes at the meet. VanErp won both the long jump (20’6) and the triple jump (43’3.5), while Stroh took the shot (53’1) and discus (154’7.5).
OTC’s other first place finishers included Keith Stueve in the 100 meter dash (11.8), Cody Seedorf in the 400 meter dash (54.96), Collin Dague in the 300 IM hurdles (43.36) and Spencer Johnson in the 800 meter run (2:13.5).
Noah Thompson, Collin Dague, VanErp and Stueve broke a school record and took first in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:34.
The Fergus Falls boys finished the meet in second place with a score of 117.
“I was really happy with the boys performance today,” Otter boys coach Randy Hansen said. “We had 16 personal best times overall which was pretty good for the limited number of guys we could get into events.”
The Otters saw two relay teams finish in first place as the 4×100 meter relay team of Mitchell Nacke, Caleb Deterding, Travis Seidel and Taylor Lemke and the 4×800 team of Connor Danielson, Clay Danielson, Lucas Kasper and Cal Mouritsen ran times of 45.45 and 9:16.60, respectively.
Connor Danielson was the lone individual winner for Fergus as he captured first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:35.9.
The Otters saw several second place finishers including Deterding (100 meter dash, 11.78), Michael Ervin (400 meter run, 55.40), Clay Danielson (3200 meter run, 10:30), Seidel (110 meter hurdles, 17.36), Al Suek (shotput, 46’6) and the 4×400 relay team of Deterding, Zach Grunewald, Luke Velde and Ervin (3:43.50).
Kaleb Rotering took third in the discus (129’05.5) for Fergus.
Hillcrest’s Anders Bjorndal had another great meet winning the 3200 meter run and take second in the 1600 meter run (4:36), breaking a school record. Teammate Daniel Romarheim captured first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.24
In girls action, the Fergus Falls Otters saw five individuals and two relay teams take top prize.
“We ran our squad very spread out today,” Fergus girls coach Niki Welde said. “This was one of our last regular season opportunities for some girls and we wanted to make opportunities for them.”
Fergus captured several podium spots including CallieAnn Hoffbeck winning the 100 meter dash (13.16) and placing third in the long jump (14’05.5), Brianna Rasmusson winning in the long jump (16’01) and taking second in the triple jump (33’09), Samantha Velde placing first in the discus (113’) and third in the shot (31’05), Annie Magnusson winning the 800 meter run (2:30.60), Paige Larson winning the 3200 meter run (12:52.00), Lauren Norgren taking runner-up in the high jump (4’06) and Johanna Schmidt finishing in third in the 3200 meter run (14:13.00).
The relay teams of Emma Daniels, Ally Ringquist, Rasmusson and Hoffbeck won the 4×200 (1:51.98), while Hoffbeck, Norgren, Emilie Reard and Magnusson claimed first in the 4×400 relay (4:23.89).
Abigail Christenson led the Hillcrest girls squad placing first in the 1600 meter run (6:04) and taking runner-up in the 3200 meter run (13:38).
