Bulldogs take two from BravesPublished 10:59am Wednesday, May 15, 2013
BATTLE LAKE — The Otter Tail Central softball team wanted a perfect May. Last week, Staples-Motley spoiled a chance to remain undefeated in the month.
Tuesday, the Bulldogs were back in action and as viscious as ever as they were the home team swept the visiting Menahga Braves in a Park Region Conference doubleheader.
The Braves scored first, but the Bulldogs were able to put the game away as they won the opening game 5-1.
Menahga scored a run in the top of the first, but pitcher Emily Marso and the Bulldogs were able to shut down the Brave offense the rest of the way.
Marso got the win from the mound, throwing all seven innings and sitting down five batters.
Olivia Hull had two RBI and a hit for Otter Tail Central in the win.
In game two, the Bulldogs overloaded the visiting team for a 15-3 victory.
The tables were looking to turn as OTC jumped out to an early four-run lead before the Braves responded with three of its own in the third.
Sensing a possible change in momentum, the Bulldogs regrouped and scored seven runs in the following inning to regain control and close out the sweep.
Marso got her second win of the day after coming in relief for Hannah Ranstad for the final five frames.
Kenzi Woodman led the Bulldog hitters in game two going three for four, while teammate Carly VanWatermulen flexed her power hitting a homerun and a double in a two for four outing.
The second place Park Region Conference Bulldogs will finish out its regular season Friday as they welcome in the Pelican Rapids Vikings for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
