With better weather conditions and better play, the Fergus Falls softball team claimed both games of the doubleheader against Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Apollo Wednesday.
The Otters were able to break away from the Eagles in game one was they claimed a 6-4 victory.
The teams traded blows early on as they scored was knotted up at two apiece. Fergus was able to take the lead scoring three runs in the fourth inning.
St. Cloud Apollo threaten the home team scoring a run in the sixth and seventh, but the Otters were able to close the door for the win.
Sadie Knudson led the Otter hitters going two for three with three RBI, while teammates Devonie Smith and Gabby Stocks each had two hits in game one.
Fergus used another three-run inning to complete the sweep of the visitor.
The Otters were able to jump out to a 4-1 lead after scoring three runs in the third. The Eagles did not put up a fight on the way to the two-game sweep.
Laura Gaustad had a great game from the plate as she went three for four with two RBI, while Smith again padded her stats at the dish going one for four with two runs scored.
“We played really focused softball today,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “The girls walked out on the diamond ready to play.”
The Otters were also informed during game two that they given the number two seed in the Section 8AA playoffs.
“We are very excited to receive the number two seed. I believe that this year’s playoff will be interesting, but we can’t lose focus as we have to play Alexandria tomorrow,” Erickson added.
The Otters will hit the road for its final regular season games as the Alexandria Cardinals host a CLC doubleheader at 4 p.m.
