COLLEGEVILLE — The West Central Area boys track and field team took first, while the girls team finished in third in the Section 6A Prairie Conference meet at St. John’s University.
The Knight boys were able to edge Long Prairie-Grey Eagle by four points with a team score of 128.
West Central’s Daniel Schack earned MVP honors posting three first place finishes in the triple jump (39’6), long jump (20’0) and high jump (5’10). Schack was also apart of the fifth place 4×200 team, which included teammates Drew Peterson, Domenic Walz, and Brady Combs.
In girls action, the Knights finished in third with 86 points as the Thunder claimed first (156) and Osakis took second (182).
Kylee Fernholz also earned conference MVP honors by posting a first place finishes in the 800 meter run (2:29), 1600 meter run (5:33), a seond place finish in the high jump (4’11) and a fifth place finish on the 4×400 with Tiana Christenson, Amanda Drechsel, and Demara Bumgardner.
Annabelle Haarstad also had a very strong showing for the Knights winning both the shotput (31‘1) and the discus (102-4).
“It was a total team effort and everyone stepped up and did their job,” Knight coach Nikki Schneeberger. “Along with the boys placing 1st and the Girls placing a strong 3rd, we are so proud of all of our athletes. We are going to carry this momentum into subsections next week.”
