Lund, Chargers edge KnightsPublished 10:52am Friday, May 17, 2013
BRANDON — Kennedy Lund was already having a good game for the hosting Chargers, but her last at bat took the cake.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Lund delivered a shot that saw the go-ahead cross the plate for a 6-5 victory over the West Central Area Knights Thursday.
“Today was a good battle all the way to the end,” Charger coach Tim Pattrin said. “It’s been great seeing all of our young players step up as the year has gone on. Now the new season starts and we are really excited for the post season.”
This was the second time in a row that the Knights saw this happen as Upsala was able pick up an extra inning win off a similar play.
“We are deflated right now and have to shake it off before the weekend.” Knight coach Bryan Poyzer said. “Good things happened both games and we just need to re-group for the playoffs. No worries.”
Lund finished the day two for four with two runs scored and an RBI.
Kinsley Randt got the win for the Chargers as she went the distance, striking out four.
West Central’s Blascyk took the loss on the mound, but was able to contribute a two for four day to the Knights, while teammate Christina Kruize also went two for four in the game.
The Chargers received the second seed in the Section 6A South and will host the Hillcrest Comets Tuesday at 5 p.m., while the Knights got the third seed in the South and will host the Parkers Prairie Panthers Tuesday at 5 p.m.
