‘Canes’ offense dominates Dalers 10-2Published 9:32am Monday, May 20, 2013
BRECKENRIDGE — The Fergus Falls Hurricanes baseball team opened its season with a four-run win over the Vergas Loons and continued to show no early season rust as it used a dominating offensive performance to defeat the Breckenridge Dalers 10-2 Saturday.
The ‘Canes started its onslaught in the first as Darin Stanislawski delivered a two-run single. The Dalers struggled in the second inning as an error and two passed balls allowed Fergus to send three runners across the dish.
The visitor continued to pile on the runs, scoring four in the third and one in the fifth. Breckenridge woke up its bats in the sixth as Jackson Amdahl recorded a single and moved around the base pads on two groudouts, before scoring on a wild pitch. The Dalers would add another run in the seventh, but the damage had been done as the ‘Canes took home the win.
Fergus’ Alex Hensch had a good day inside the box as he went three for six with three runs scored, while teammate Erik Heideman went two for five with three runs scored. Stanislawski had four RBI for the ‘Canes in a one for two effort.
Kyle Shaikoski took home the win as he went five innings, fanning eight batters and allowing one hit. Breckenridge’s Bobby Pauly was roughed up in his start allowing eight runs in two plus innings of work.
The Hurricanes will be back in action Sunday as it hosts the New York Mills Millers at 7 p.m. at American Legion Field.
