He was born April 19, 1929 in Pelican Rapids, and grew up on a farm in what is now Maplewood State Park. He attended Pelican Rapids High School and completed LPN training at Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Hospital.
George worked at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center for 43 years, retiring in 1991. He and Alice spent their winters since retirement in Mission, Texas, and relocated there permanently in May 2012.
He enjoyed photography, dancing, auctions, hunting and had a lifelong love of cars. But most of all he loved people. He would strike up a conversation with whoever crossed his path.
He was member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, Elks and Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Clara Wagstrom; and a brother, Douglas.
George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Alice; a son Brian (Liz) Wagstrom of Faribault, and their children Andrew of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Emily of Iowa City, Iowa; a step-daughter, Diane (Paul) Ness of Blaine, and their son, Michael (Rochelle); a step-daughter, Donna (Reynold) Jager of Maple Grove, and their daughter, Sonja (Brian) Lindgren and son Erik (Joan) Wasche; seven great-grandchildren, Devon and Ethan Wasche; Sydney, Alexandra and Keira Lindgren; and Colin and Evan Ness.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, Texas or Maplewood Lutheran Church.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
