Knights surge past Arrows 11-6Published 9:56am Friday, May 24, 2013
BARRETT – After committing four errors early-on, the West Central Knights were able to rally from behind to defeat the visiting Ashby Arrows 11-6 Thursday.
The Knights struggled defensively in the first as the Arrows took a 3-0 lead. West Central looked to regret making early errors as Ashby held a two-run lead after three, but the Knight offense was able to produce seven runs in the fifth to take command of the game.
The Arrows could not find the right balance on the mound in time to shutdown the Knights’ surge and bowed to the home team.
“Defensively we started the game a little ‘off’ today, making four errors in the first three innings,” Knight coach Brandon Gruchow said. “However, the team cleaned things up and began to play well.”
Carter Duncan led the Knight hitters going three for four with two RBI and two runs scored, while teammates Jay Zimmerman and Jordan Beuckens each had two hits, two RBI and a run. Ashby’s Zach Barry led the team with a two for four day, plating two runs and scoring two.
Andrew Lindor got the win for the Knights coming in relief of starter Spencer Ilstrup in the third inning allowing one hit and striking out four. Reed Hanson was saddled with the loss as he went four and a third innings and struck out four.
The Knights will now travel to take on the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors in the Section 6A playoffs at 5 p.m. Tuesday, while the Arrows draw a 5 p.m. playoff road match up against Ortonville Tuesday at 5 p.m.
