Otters defeat Prowlers, moves into section finalPublished 9:47am Wednesday, May 29, 2013
FRAZEE – The most feared team come playoff time is the team that puts it all together late in the year.
The Fergus Falls softball team falls into that category as it has been on a tear in the Section 8AA playoffs. Tuesday’s section semi-final was no different as the Otters shutout the Thief River Falls Prowlers 10-0 in five innings.
“The girls came out focused,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “What impressed the coaches the most was that we came out of the shoot ready to play.”
Fergus jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning. The Prowlers were unable to get good contact on the ball as the Otters’ pitcher Sadie Knudson kept Thief River Falls off-balance.
The Fergus hitters continued to tattoo the ball as it had a pair of three-run innings to claim the short game victory.
Knudson finished the game allowing one hit, two walks and fanning six batters. “Sadie was poised and in control all day,” Erickson added.
Devonie Smith led the Otters from the plate going three for four with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI, while teammate Taylor King knocked in three runs and scored one herself in a two for four effort. Amber Boese and Kristin Traiser each batted two runs in in the win.
