Panthers’ rally ends Comets season 9-8Published 9:55am Wednesday, May 29, 2013
CLINTON – The Hillcrest Comets came out of the gates ready in the first round of the Section 6A playoffs, but it wasn’t prepared for a late inning rally as the Parkers Prairie Panthers ended the Comets season 9-8.
Hillcrest was ready to play as it took an 8-0 lead after three innings of play. Pitcher Connor Aasness seemed to be cruising along until hitting a rough patch in the sixth.
The Panthers came back strong as it tied the game by taking advantage of Comet errors and collecting hits. After seven innings, neither team could close out the game in regulation.
The Comets could not get anything done in the top half of the eighth, but the Panthers would seal the deal as Dakota Revering singled in Hunter Arnold in a close play at the dish.
“Definitely a disappointing way to end our season, but give Parkers credit for not giving up,” Comet coach Steve Undseth said. “They made the plays in that big 6th and we didn’t.”
Skyler Ruf led the Comet hitters going three for four in the game.
The Comets end its season with a 4-12 record.
