Fergus boys qualify for sectionsPublished 9:59am Thursday, May 30, 2013
PARK RAPIDS — The Fergus Falls boys golf team played one of its best rounds of team golf as it claimed second place at the 8A subsection tournament held at Headwaters Golf Course Wednesday.
The Otters’ 309 came three strokes off subsection winner and last year’s state champion Detroit Lakes Lakers team score. Hawley rounded out the top three with a 328.
Fergus’ Will Haas played his best round of golf this year as he led the team with a 76 and was one stroke off medalist Tanner Schnathorst of Detroit Lakes. Teammates Keaton Lausch (77), Levi Soydara (78) and Chris Swenson (78) also found themselves in the under 80 category.
“Course management and patience were going to play an important part in playing well today,” Otter coach Ben Jurgens said. “This is where both Will Hass and Levi Soydara really showed how far they have come this year. They managed their golf ball around the course and took what it gave them all day neither making a birdie yet both posting great rounds for us.
The team will now play at the section tournament at Longbow Golf Course in Walker Tuesday.
