Knights split with visiting Thunder

BARRETT — The West Central Area Knights fought the windy afternoon and the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder Thursday to pick up a split in a Prairie Conference North battle.

The Thunder were able to capture game one with a 9-3 victory.

LPGE was able to exploit a misplayed ball that put the Knights in a 6-0 hole after two innings. Melissa Vikesland plated three runners for West Central as she recorded her third hit of the game.

The rally was cut short as the Thunder took game one.

In game two, the Knights were able to edge their visitor in an offensive frenzy 11-10.

The back and forth battle saw Vikesland knock in the go ahead run in the top of the seventh.

Amber Oberg, who had two hits in game one, continued her hot hitting streak as she went 3 for 3 in the game.

The Knights will hosts a home invitational as Royalton comes to town for a 1:30 p.m. game, followed by a 5:30 p.m. showdown against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Friday.
