Miller Band closes Center Series in big wayPublished 9:16am Thursday, May 2, 2013 Updated 11:21am Thursday, May 2, 2013
It’s hard to believe it, but A Center for the Arts has now completed its first Center Series, “Escape Without Leaving,” our new season subscription programming. It’s amazing how fast time flies.
At this time last year, we were just starting to sell seats to the eight-show season. Admittedly, we were a little nervous because we weren’t sure how this would go over in Fergus. To our surprise and absolute delight, we sold over 300 seats our first year.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra this past Saturday closed out our first season in a big way. We have heard nothing but positive reviews from everyone who was able to make it. Now that we have completed the inaugural Center Series season, we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our patrons and sponsors, as well as volunteers, for making our first year such a huge success. We couldn’t have done it without you.
It was a great season, with a diversity of offerings that were all of the highest quality. Some people told us that they would have never come to see some of the shows if they weren’t part of the season — but they trusted us and gave it a chance and were pleasantly surprised, more often than not, that they ended up enjoying what they saw.
Again, thank you for trusting us to provide you with “the best possible arts experiences that inspire imagination, creativity, curiosity and learning.”
Now that we are done with our Center Series season, it is on to selling seats for next year’s Center Series. We have already sold over 200 seats for the 2013-14 Center Series, “Normal is Never Amazing.”
Please remember that we always make sure that there are seats available for the general public for each individual show within the Series.
You don’t have to be a Center Series seat-holder in order to come to the show. Tickets for each individual show will go on sale Aug. 1.
For those of you who haven’t heard, the seven-show season is $105 with the option of adding an eighth show, the holiday bonus show, for an additional $15. We recently confirmed that the holiday bonus show will be the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra with “A Caribbean Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Right now we are also accepting registration for our Summer Arts Academy happening August 5-16. This year the Fergus Falls School of Dance and the Kaddatz Galleries have partnered with us to offer dance classes and visual arts classes during Summer Arts Academy as well.
The informational flyer and registration form for Summer Arts Academy can be found on our website, www.fergusarts.org, under the “Educational Programming” tab. You can also stop by our box office Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to pick up more information.
In May we are holding auditions for our summer Children’s Theater, the musical “Disney’s The Jungle Book,” for children first grade and up. We are also holding auditions for our adult Summer Musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Please sign-up in advance for an audition day and time. We hope to see you at the theater this spring and summer.
