Trojans spoil Comets home opener

Published 10:04am Tuesday, May 14, 2013

The Hillcrest baseball team may have been too welcoming of a host as the Ortonville Trojans swept a doubleheader in the Comets home opener.

Ortonville was able to capitalize on a three error, six run second to take a 10-5 win.

All the runs in the second were unearned as the Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

Hillcrest rallied back, but the damage had already been done.

Caleb Mathison led the Comet hitters with two hits and two RBI, while Jared Christenson went two for three with two runs scored.

The Trojans were able to use the momentum from game one to finish the sweep with a 8-1 win.

Tony Schake got the win for Ortonville allowing only three hits and fanning nine.

Skyler Ruf recorded an RBI double in the game.

The Comets will look to right the ship as they travel to take on the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors Thursday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
