NJCAA golf tournament day 3 canceled

Published 10:42am Friday, June 7, 2013

The climb will be that much harder for the M State Spartans Men’s golf team as day three of the NJCAA Div. III National Championships was canceled due to rain.

“It was really tough out there today and it was obvious the course was unplayable,” Spartans’ coach Jason Retzlaff said. “With a round being wiped out, we have no choice but to be at the top of our game tomorrow. But it’s very exciting to know we could be one great round away from a National Championship.”

M State was halfway through Thursday’s round when play stopped. The Spartans’ Lucas Gervais was one under par after playing through nine holes.

When play resumes, current first place holder, Jamestown Community College, still holds a eight stroke lead over the defending champs going onto the last day of the meet.

The Spartans will tee-off in the final round of the tournament Friday at 9:40 a.m.
