Battle Lake resident charged with assault [UPDATED]Published 4:55am Monday, June 10, 2013 Updated 12:27pm Wednesday, September 11, 2013
A man who was arrested after he allegedly shot at another man who he thought had attempted to run him over with a vehicle has been charged with a felony.
Bryan Lee Nelson, 60, of Battle Lake, was charged May 29 in Otter Tail County District Court with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to the criminal complaint, Nelson shot at a man with a handgun while the man tried to drop off a letter May 25.
Nelson told authorities he shot twice at the man while he was in a vehicle near the property at 33209 295th St. in Battle Lake, and he added that the man tried to run him over, the report says.
However, evidence and tire tracks were reportedly not consistent with Nelson’s story.
A preliminary breath test showed Nelson’s blood alcohol to be 0.017.
Nelson’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 15.
