Pickup collides with power pole [UPDATED]Published 9:57am Wednesday, June 12, 2013 Updated 11:59am Wednesday, June 12, 2013
A 26-year-old Bertha woman suffered serious injuries after her vehicle went into a ditch and hit a power pole just west of Wadena, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman reportedly drove a pickup truck northbound on County Hwy. 75 just north of State Hwy. 29 just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when the vehicle drifted into the right ditch, hit an approach causing it to become airborne, overturned and then hit and severed a wooden electrical pole. The power lines were still suspended and did not make contact with the ground or the vehicle, which came to a rest on its side.
The driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Tri-County Hospital and later airlifted to a St. Cloud Hospital. The extent of her injuries was not known.
Excessive speed and chemical impairment were allegedly factors in the crash. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Electricity was temporarily knocked out and an electrical crew was called to the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
Wadena Fire Department, Tri-County Ambulance Service, Wadena County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Wadena Police Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted with the crash.
