ALEXANDRIA — The Fergus Falls Claybusters trap shooting team finished its inaugural season Friday and Saturday as it competed at the state meet at the Alexandria Shooting Park.
With a total of 1,869 student-athletes competing, the Claybusters had two teams compete in the tournament.
The team of Nathan Onstad, Dylan Huffman, Nick Plaza, Austin Mahrer and Tyler Harthun competed in the Novice class finishing 10th out of 69 teams.
The Novice class shoots three rounds of 25 clays.
Onstad led the Fergus shooters hitting 65 of 75 targets, tying for fifth place overall out of 272 participants. Teammate Huffman was second on the team with 61 clays hit.
In Saturday’s action, Alex Anderson, Alec Davis, Hayden Westra and Katie Iverson were able to finish 51st out of 85 team in the junior varsity division.
In the junior varsity class, each competitor shoots four rounds of 25 clays.
Firing with a shooter short, the team hit 325 of 400 shots.
Individually, Anderson led Fergus hitting 85 of 100 clays finishing in 14th place, while teammates Davis and Westra each hit 83 of their 100 clays.
“There will be an experienced and talented nucleus for the second season next April,” Claybuster assistant coach Dave Whipple said.
