Fergus’ Soydara finishes 13thPublished 8:24am Thursday, June 13, 2013
Fergus Falls’ Levi Soydara looked to make a move to the top spot Wednesday in the Class AA boys golf tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek.
Sitting four strokes back, Soydara was ready to take on the pack. But then the rain came.
With a five-hour rain delay, the tournament was cut to 27-hole tournament. Soydara would finish the day in a tie for 13th place with a overall score of 112 after posting a 39 on the back nine. Delano’s Jordan Peters won medalist honors with a 104 score, while Josh Kummerfeldt of Waseca (106) and Mitch Hagenson of Staples-Motley (108) rounded out the top three.
“Levi hit the ball so well this tournament and to shoot the scores he did at the state tournament was so fun to watch,” Otter boys coach Ben Jurgens. “We are very proud of him.”
In girls Class AA tourney, the Otters’ Megan Niblock shot a 44 to move up four positions finishing in 69th place with a 145 final score. Pelican Rapids’ Alexa Bekkerus was able to move up as well, finishing tied for 25th place with a 127 overall score after shooting a 41.
Heading north to Pebble Creek, Otter Tail Central’s Kaleb Thalmann also was in eighth place but nine strokes off the leader entering day two.
The lead proved to be too much for Thalmann as he finished in 29th place after shooting a second day 90. The Bulldog golfer was able to improve on last year’s state finish of 39th.
The tournament was able to go a full round as weather did not stall the meet.
In girls action, the Otter Tail Central girls golf team finished the meet in eighth place with a combined score of 880.
Morgan Klintworth posted the top two-day score for the Bulldogs with a 214 (T-58th), while teammate Leah Weber finished two strokes back with a 216 (T-61st).
Jessica Lhotak (222, T-66th), Paige Weber (228, 77th), Makenzie Vorderbruggen (247, 84th) and Kaitlyn Richter (281, 86th) rounded out the scores for the OTC girls.
